Description

Considered to be one of the most important cultural institutions in Spain, the Teatro Real has managed to become one of the main opera houses in the world, showcasing the talents of some of the most brilliant opera singers in the world.

The Teatro Real reopened on 11 October, 1997 under the management of the Foundation. Since that day, it has developed activities that are clearly aimed at protecting and promoting Spanish artistic heritage, especially organising, creating and putting on performances of opera, music and dance.

Throughout its existence, the Teatro Real has always been committed to contributing to Spain's culture, and boosting the country's international cultural presence. Consequently the Teatro Real has managed to position itself as a major focus for artistic activity on an international level, and it is also an undisputed benchmark among Spanish cultural institutions.

With an impressive capacity for producing its own productions, the Teatro Real cultivates its own traditional repertoire as well as welcoming more modern works, with a strong commitment to providing the public with a place to discover the best performers and directors of the moment. This, together with the theatre's excellent choir and orchestra, use of the most innovative technology and the production of an extensive range of artistic performances, which are increasingly shown on stage around the world, have made the Real an important institution both in Spain and abroad.
